Moving and Storage Service in Avenues of Art and Design, West Hollywood
The Avenues of Art and Design is the earlier name for what West Hollywood now markets as its Design District, the quarter where Robertson Boulevard, Melrose Avenue and Beverly Boulevard meet. The city counts more than 200 galleries, furniture and interior design showrooms and boutiques here, and the Pacific Design Center fills a 14-acre campus at 8687 Melrose Avenue. San Vicente Boulevard cuts through on a diagonal, with West Hollywood Park and the library on its western side. Behind the commercial frontage are residential streets, so the district produces two quite different kinds of move.
Showroom and gallery work means fine furniture and artwork, custom crates, and loading tied to trading hours and tight delivery windows, so we agree the loading point and the time with the business before the day. For a business move West Hollywood issues a Commercial Move permit, and most full-size moving vans fall under its Oversized Move category, defined as a vehicle over 24 feet long or heavier than three quarters of a ton. Temporary No Parking signs are applied for online. The city asks for at least 5 business days, but that deadline counts from when payment is received, so it recommends applying at least 8 business days ahead. With metered frontage and delivery vans competing for the kerb, this is not a district where a truck can simply find a space on the day.
On the residential streets the questions are permit parking, managed buildings and small lifts. Most buildings ask for a certificate of insurance naming the building as additional insured, a booked lift window and lift pads, and garage height limits often keep a full-size truck out, so a shuttle is decided at the estimate. Our Fine Art & Antique Moving, Custom Crating and Office & Business Moving services cover the commercial side, and Apartment Moving covers the homes behind it. Every job starts with a free in-home or video estimate, with the price set in writing before loading and a Not To Exceed figure on moves inside California. Call (310) 823-9510.
LOCAL EXPERTISE
Common Moving and Storage Issues in Avenues of Art and Design
Loading tied to trading hours
Showrooms and galleries often set narrow windows for goods in and out, so the move is planned around the business, not the other way round.
Competition for kerb space
Metered frontage, delivery vans and showroom traffic leave little room for a truck without a reserved space.
Oversized vehicle threshold
The 24 foot and three quarter ton limits mean most full-size moving vans need the Oversized Move permit.
Fragile, high-value pieces
Art, lighting and designer furniture often need crating and separate declaration on the inventory.
Garage clearances in residential buildings
Height limits in building garages frequently keep a full-size truck out, so a shuttle has to be planned in.

Photograph any valuable piece and note its value before it is packed, so it can be declared on the inventory.

Moving and Storage Service in Avenues of Art and Design - FAQ
West Hollywood is its own city, and Temporary No Parking signs are applied for online. There are separate categories for a Resident Overnight truck, a Commercial Move and an Oversized Move, the last covering vehicles over 24 feet long or heavier than three quarters of a ton, which includes most full-size vans. The city asks for at least 5 business days counted from payment and recommends at least 8. Parking Enforcement posts the signs, and a car left in the reserved space is illegally parked.
Fine art and antique moving in the Los Angeles area typically runs $300 to $1,200+, and custom crating typically runs $150 to $800+ per crate. Those are typical ranges, not a quote. Your price depends on the pieces, the crating and the access, and is set in writing before anything is loaded.
Yes. Popeye offers free in-home and video estimates for homes and businesses, and a video survey can lead to a guaranteed binding price. For a gallery or showroom, show us the loading door, the largest pieces and anything that needs a crate.
Yes. We agree the loading window with the business before the day and plan the crew and truck around it. The city permit reservation and any building rules still apply, so we line those up first. Our office line is open 6 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week, for scheduling.
Yes. On a move inside California, unless you declare otherwise, the mover's maximum liability under Maximum Rate Tariff 4 is up to 20,000 dollars of actual cash value for the shipment. The 60 cents per pound figure is the basis the rates are computed on, not a payout. Items of extraordinary value such as art and antiques should be listed separately with a value declared for each, and full value protection is the paid alternative.
Usually a certificate of insurance naming the building as additional insured, a booked lift window and pads in the lift. Garage height limits often stop a full-size truck from entering, so we confirm the clearance and whether a smaller shuttle vehicle is needed when we do the estimate.
