About Storage Solutions in Hermosa Beach

Popeye Moving & Storage offers full-service vaulted storage at its own warehouse at 5509 1/2 S Centinela Ave in Mar Vista, on the Westside of Hermosa Beach. This is not self-storage. There is no unit to rent and no key to carry: our crews pack, load and handle your goods, and the warehouse is climate controlled for both temperature and humidity. Goods picked up from your home are placed into vaults at the warehouse the same day, with no overnight hold on the truck.

Vaulted Storage keeps each customer's goods together in sealed wooden vaults, loaded once and moved as a unit by forklift, in the full range of vault sizes. Long-Term Storage has no minimum and no maximum term, for anyone between homes, renovating, downsizing or holding belongings they will not need for a while. Commercial & Business Storage accepts office furniture, files, fixtures and stock alongside household goods. Designer Receiving & Consolidation lets furniture and decor bought for a new home be received into storage and held together until the home is ready.

Storage paperwork matters. Storage requested as part of a move, for up to 90 days, is storage-in-transit and stays within the mover's regulated service. Beyond that, goods are held under the warehouse's own storage agreement under California Commercial Code Division 7, so read the agreement for its liability and claims terms. We store wine, fine art, pianos and chandeliers, but not vehicles.

Storage Solutions Coverage in Hermosa Beach

Movers in Hermosa Beach, CA for walk streets, The Strand and the Valley Drive side. Moving van permit and A-frame return handled, long hand carries planned. Free estimates.

Popeye serves all of Hermosa Beach, ZIP code 90254, from The Strand and the walk streets near the water to the Valley Drive and greenbelt side inland. Pacific Coast Highway, State Route 1, runs through the middle of the city, Herondo Street marks the southern line and Aviation Boulevard and Prospect Avenue mark the eastern edge. On the beach side, many homes have no vehicle access to the door, so the estimate measures the hand carry and any steps before a crew size is set. Around Pier Plaza and Pier Avenue, event closures and summer weekend crowds are worked around by choosing the date. For street parking, the City issues a moving van permit with No Parking / Tow Away signs and A-frames, which go back to Public Works afterwards, and a separate permit covers moving pods. Moves continue into Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and the rest of the region.

Local Issues

Common Storage Solutions Issues in Hermosa Beach

No vehicle access to the door

On walk streets and The Strand, many homes cannot be reached by truck, so the hand carry and any steps are measured at the estimate and set the crew size.

Unreturned A-frames

The moving van permit comes with A-frames that must go back to Public Works after the move. Forgetting them can leave the customer with a charge.

Pods need their own permit

A moving pod or container is not covered by the moving van permit; Hermosa Beach issues a separate moving pod permit for it.

Pier Plaza crowds and closures

Pier Plaza is pedestrianised with event closures and nightlife, and summer weekends there are effectively unworkable for a full-size truck.

Different rules next door

Redondo Beach issues nothing for moving trucks and Manhattan Beach runs its own process, so a move across city lines follows each city's own rule.

Local Tips

Storage Solutions Tips for Hermosa Beach Residents

Keep the A-frames from your moving van permit together after the move and confirm they are returned to Public Works.

If you are on a walk street or The Strand, show us the full route from the nearest truck spot to your door, including any steps, during the estimate.

Near Pier Plaza, choose a weekday date rather than a summer weekend.

Real reviews from Hermosa Beach-area customers we've served.

Rated 5 out of 5
β€œDue to the fact that I was out of the country for 2 years and had to give up my rental apartment for that period, I had my belongings stored with Popeye Moving & Storage. I can absolutely recommend them to anybody in need for moving services and especially for storage services. They were a very professional, experienced and thorough team and everything was handled meticulously. Their help in getting my belongings packed and the delicate items crated professionally was a huge relief. Their storage facility is clean and well organized and the storage units had proper ventilation. It was a real storage facility with temperature control, none of the stored items got damaged over the period of time. Thank so much Stephen and team for your great and valued service. Anytime again.”

Storage Solutions in Hermosa Beach - Frequently Asked Questions

Vaulted storage typically runs $60 to $90 per vault per month in Hermosa Beach. That is a typical market range, not a quote. Our 245 cubic foot vaults save 10 to 15 percent vs self-storage, and the number of vaults you need depends on how much you are storing. Your rate is set out in the storage agreement before your goods go in.

Moves that start and end inside California are regulated by the Department of Consumer Affairs Bureau of Household Goods and Services (BHGS), not the CPUC, which stopped regulating household movers on July 1, 2018 under Senate Bill 19. Popeye Moving & Storage operates under CAL T 189749 for moves inside California, holds USDOT 1472924 and MC 498816C for interstate work, and is fully insured. Storage requested as part of a move, for up to 90 days, is storage-in-transit and remains a regulated mover service under Maximum Rate Tariff 4. Past 90 days, goods are held under the warehouse storage agreement and California Commercial Code Division 7, not the Self-Service Storage Facility Act, because vaulted storage gives no customer access to a unit. You can check any mover's permit with BHGS at bhgs.dca.ca.gov or on (916) 999-2041 before you book, and complaints about a California household mover go to BHGS.

Yes. Estimates are free, including in-home and video estimates, and the survey tells us how many vaults your goods need. If storage is part of a move, the moving price is set in writing before anything is loaded, with a Not To Exceed figure on a move inside California. Call (310) 823-9510 - the office is open 6 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week, including Sunday.

With self-storage you rent a unit, hold the key and move goods in and out yourself. With vaulted storage there is no unit and no key: our crews pack your goods into sealed wooden vaults at pickup, the vaults are moved by forklift and kept inside our climate controlled warehouse, and goods are handled fewer times overall. Retrieval is arranged with our office, since the warehouse has to bring out and open the vault.

Goods are placed into vaults at the Mar Vista warehouse the same day as pickup, with no overnight hold on the truck. That keeps the time your belongings spend in transit short and means they go straight into a climate controlled building.

We store household furniture, boxes, clothing and appliances, commercial furniture, files and stock, and items such as wine, fine art, pianos and chandeliers. We do not store vehicles of any kind. Hazardous materials, including gasoline, propane, paint and solvents, are not accepted, and perishable food, plants and open liquids should not go into storage.

Hermosa Beach Questions

Yes, the City of Hermosa Beach issues moving van permits, supplied with No Parking / Tow Away signs and A-frames. The A-frames must be returned to Public Works after the move, or the customer can end up paying for them. A container needs its own moving pod permit, and right of way permits are applied for online. Current fees and lead times are confirmed with the City before the move.

Local residential moving in the Los Angeles area typically runs $150 to $200 per hour for a two-person crew and truck. That is a typical range, not a quote. On walk streets and The Strand the hand carry and any steps affect the crew and hours, so your price is set in writing after an estimate, with a Not To Exceed figure, before anything is loaded.

California household movers are regulated by the Bureau of Household Goods and Services, not the CPUC, and you can check a permit with the bureau before booking.

Yes. Estimates are free, in your home or by video. For a walk street or Strand property, the estimate is where the carry distance and steps are measured. A video survey can lead to a guaranteed binding price, and moves inside California get a written price with a Not To Exceed figure.

Goods go into vaults at the warehouse the same day as pickup, with no overnight hold on the truck. Often it cannot reach the door. Walk streets and The Strand mean many properties have no vehicle access, so goods are carried by hand from where the truck can stand, sometimes up or down flights of steps. That carry is measured at the estimate and sets the crew size and hours, so it is priced in from the start.

It is best avoided. Pier Plaza is pedestrianised, with heavy foot traffic, event closures and nightlife, and summer weekends are effectively unworkable for a full-size truck. A weekday date usually makes a move in that part of town practical.

No. Redondo Beach issues nothing for moving trucks, and Manhattan Beach runs its own separate process. Hermosa Beach issues its own moving van permit. For a move between these cities, each end is handled under that city's own rule.
